This means that from now on you can use your iPhone as a key for your compatible BMW, while enjoying maximum security and data protection. The digital car key on your compatible iPhone allows you to lock, unlock and even start your BMW in a comfortable and safe way.
If your iPhone runs out of batteryYou can unlock and start your vehicle for up to five hours. If you turn off the iPhone manually, the BMW digital key will only work once you turn the device back on.
In order to use this system, you must buy a new BMW made from the summer of 2020 and that is compatible with the BMW Digital Key (Not all models will be available in all markets).
Compatible cars and iPhones
In order to show off and teach your brother-in-law how you open your car with your iPhone, you will need a BMW 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M and Z4 series that has been manufactured from July 1, 2020.
As for the Apple device, (if you have the car, it would be the least problematic already) you will need an iPhone XR, XS or later, and for those who want to use a Apple Watch, must be Series 5 or later.
