Bitef Theater’s new interactive performance uses advanced technologies to overcome barriers during a pandemic

The coronavirus pandemic has affected almost all aspects of life and changed many habits, customs, even the way we experience culture and art. Simple things, such as going to the theater, have become far more complicated or even impossible for many citizens. The new situation thus influenced the artists of the Bitef Theater, an avant-garde theater located in the picturesque theater space of the reconstructed evangelical church, to create a play that is completely different from any held so far in this theater. “As if the end is not even close” uses the latest projection technologies to transport the audience to a different world, thus blurring the line between the observer and the actor, making the audience part of the play.

The entire play thus relies on an audience of up to a maximum of five people and, while respecting all epidemiological measures, promotes interaction with a constantly changing space.

As if the end is not even close”Is a play inspired by the subtle transfer of the world, relationships and human interactions to digital reality, an attempt to reflect on some new forms of coexistence and community of man and machine in the most intense times we have experienced so far. An audience of five people will have the opportunity to experience a virtual journey through possible new worlds around and within ourselves. Through the interactive play of current communion that is established in the microstructure of the theatrical act, the audience is given the opportunity to be a performer, an observer and a participant at the same time, choosing the angle of view. Using virtual reality, audio-visual installations and text, that is, a voice that invites participation, this act becomes an invitation to even a small, imperceptible personal revolution.

Using Epson’s EB-G7905U installation projectors, the show’s participants are transported to a new world that completely changes their perception of reality and enlivens the environment before their eyes, making this experience an unusual and special experience. Thanks to the 4K resolution, the large amount of light that this projector can display, as well as the vivid colors obtained from the 3LCD chip, performances such as “As if the end is not even close” never distract from their story and convey the experience of equal quality for each participant.

Is what is happening to us the beginning of an inevitable apocalypse, a symbolic asteroid heading for the earth to blow up a civilization we only know, or is it a call to reconsider everything they have taught us so far? These are all questions that visitors, as well as participants in this unusual show, will encounter.
