Dritan Abazovic

The months-long political crisis in Montenegro has so far ended with the vote of the minority government of Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic. 45 deputies out of a total of 81 in the Montenegrin parliament voted for the election of the Government. Three representatives of the opposition Social Democrats were against. Among others, Dritan was supported by the deputies of the Democratic Party of Socialists of President Milo Đukanović, which does not have representatives in the Government.

Even the greatest pessimists could not have predicted that the first government after 30 years of DPS rule, led by Zdravko Krivokapic, would fall after only 14 months, and that Dritan and Milo, as insiders claim, would make a pact and thus betray the will of the people. .

Djukanovic said that he “entrusted the mandate to Mr. Dritan Abazovic”, and previously assessed that the URA leader was “proof of the emancipation of Montenegro”. Nine years ago, Djukanovic personally called the then young MP of Positive Montenegro “a thug” in the parliament. Dritan then called Milo for corruption, crime and nepotism, and the reason was the multimillion loan he took out while he was at the head of the government. Because of the roll call, Djukanovic planned and told Abazovic: “Shame on you, you bastard!”

A few months ago, one of the leaders of the Democratic Front vividly described that Abazovic decided to perform an alchemical experiment, the consequence of which could be “Djukanovic to remain in the position of president until 2023, as if he were the Dalai Lama.” By the way, Abazović will be remembered for voting for the Resolution on the Prohibition of Genocide Denial, which was adopted by the Parliament of Montenegro on June 17. However, he later justified himself by saying that “the Serbian people are not declared genocidal, nor are the Serbian people condemned as a people, but on the contrary, only individuals are condemned.”

The new Montenegrin Prime Minister was born on December 25, 1985 in Ulcinj. He received his PhD from the Faculty of Political Science in Sarajevo, and continued his studies in Oslo, where he completed his Peace Studies. He has participated in professional programs in the United States, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium, Spain and Slovenia. He has been at the helm of the Civic Movement URA (United Reform Action) since April 2017. He was also one of the founders of the political party Positive Montenegro 2012, which then won seven seats, and Abazović became the youngest member of that convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro. Two years later, he left the party and in 2015 he joined URA.

He has always emphasized that the fight against the government is his only goal, and at one time he received the label “Albanian Chetnik” in the public.

– It is a synonym for the fight against organized crime and corruption – Abazovic explained during the election campaign.

Last year, the URA leader provoked the anger of Albanians on social networks when he called Skanderbeg a Serb.

– Montenegro, may you have happy freedom! We have been waiting for a change of government for thirty years. We said we were going to write history and we wrote it. The Mafia will no longer rule. Everyone is welcome on the right side of history, both on justice and on the Constitution. We got the mafia, without money, only with heart and only knowledge – said Abazović in his first address after the election.

It is obvious that power is sweeter than all ideals.
