A billboard with 3D lungs was set up in Valjevo about ten days ago, not far from the main entrance to the “Krushik” factory, which is one of the biggest air pollutants in this city. “Lungs” made of white cotton turned gray in a short time. The billboard was set up within the action “Lungs in Serbia” of the Belgrade Association of Citizens “Go – Change” and the association “iRevolution” from Valjevo. The goal of this project is to present to the general public in such a picturesque way how polluted and harmful the air in Valjevo is.

Vladimir Radosavljevic from “iRevolution” says that they had to put the billboard on private property because obtaining a permit from the city authorities would take time.

“Only Uzice, out of 20 cities in Serbia, received a permit to put up such billboards, while all the others managed in the meantime.” For us as local partners, when we chose the position, there was no dilemma, because ‘Krušik’ is one of the biggest polluters in Valjevo. We wanted to send a message to the company ‘Krušik’, to the decision-makers in the city and to the people who go to that factory every day, that they simply have to see what is happening with all of us, that is. our lungs. Of course, we want the message to reach as many people as possible in Valjevo, so that this problem can be solved, perhaps from here, “Vladimir Radosavljevic from” iRevolution “told the media.

The “lung” installation consists of a wire structure, a white cotton cloth placed on it and a fan that draws in air so that it circulates through the “lungs”. In that way, it is measured how much time it takes for a clean “lung” to turn black in a certain location.

“The idea is for the installation to last until the end of January. Although, we in Valjevo can already pack our ‘lungs’ slowly, because they have completely darkened in less than ten days. We toured the position several times and on the seventh day the picture was already clear, and on the ninth day they were completely dark. We have to wait for the pro forma to pass 30 days, as long as the billboard needs to be exposed. We monitor and photograph the darkening of the ‘lungs’ on a weekly time instance. In this version, there is no sending of data, but everything is in visual form and we believe that the message is clear to everyone “, says Radosavljević.

He reminds that in 2021, Valjevo recorded 152 days with excessive pollution of PM 10 particles, and if this happened to artificial lungs in 10 days, then we must not even think about what happens to the lungs of all citizens who live here and breathe this kind of air. .

“When we were setting up the installation, a group of people came across who had finished their shift in ‘Krušik’, and most of them predicted that these lungs would darken immediately. And they were right. It is good that the installation is visible, that thousands of people have to pass by them every day and notice them. We noticed that the photos are being shared on social networks and that the people of Valjevo are reacting to the action. The goal we had, and that is to draw attention to this problem with the intention in front of Krusik, has been fulfilled “, concludes Vladimir Radosavljević from” iRevolution “.
