The international company Betsson Group, which manages online casinos Betsafe and SuperCasino in Estonia, provides online gambling services, which includes 20 brands in 19 countries. The company’s Estonian unit has been operating here for over 15 years, and today it is actively expanding and recruiting new IT talent from all over the world.
According to HR manager Pamela Saaron-Juhanson, the company is often known by Betsafe, which supports rally drivers Ott Tänaku and Martin Järveoja, and as an online casino, but in reality it is a large IT company with a proper development center. “We have 2,000 employees in 13 countries globally, of which 800 work in the IT department. There are 80 employees in Estonia, although there were 55 of us only at the beginning of the year, so the growth is quite fast now,” he mentions some figures. “We value in-house challenges and therefore we are very flexible when our talented people want to try a new area. We have many examples where a tester quickly becomes a senior tester or developer, or moves between countries. It is important that a person can do a job that really interests him. ”
“One of the company’s strengths is definitely globality: we work all over the world, and communication with our other offices around the world is part of our daily work. We have expanded a lot in recent years, and in the long run, the sustainability of our business is related to how well our end customers, or online gamers, are protected. In an area like this, you can’t think of it as quick money, because then the business will run out quickly. ”
Responsible gaming and customer care are very important to the Betsson Group. “Every business can be run in a different way, but the gambling sector is one of the most regulated online industries ever. We operate in regulated markets of varying strength and apply the rules so that everything is safer for the player than required by law. And if, on the one hand, our customers are well cared for, then on the other hand, when creating such a service, employees must certainly not have a conflict either – we must be sure that our people like both the environment and the topic in which we work. Because individual cases can make every field bad for some people, but this issue is always deeper, ”says Ulejev.
Kristjan Uba, the head of Tallinn’s IT unit, who has also worked for the company for more than six years, adds that Betsson Group likes not only to pay a good salary, but also to offer other benefits such as a comfortable office, various grants, great teamwork, child and animal friendliness and of course in-house mentoring programs and development and training opportunities. “In such a large company, there is an opportunity to grow everywhere and we cannot stay within one office. For example, my department is not located in one country, and my people work with employees in other countries in the group on a daily basis. It’s like an international team, always aware of what’s going on elsewhere and how things are going globally. And, as has been said, it is important for us to support an employee who wants to try new roles, but the tray does not deliver results for anyone. It is important to be able to act and contribute with the team. ”
The most important thing is the compatibility of the DNA of the employee and the company
The growth of IT staff is forecast to increase even more in the next decade, which means that an immediate response is needed to stay competitive. At the same time, Betsson Group is not only looking for mature experts, but also talented young people interested in IT. There are several examples in the company of those who came from the university bench, who have already made 4–5 career changes and today, for example, work in a Maltese office instead of in Estonia.
In the case of Betsson Group candidates, the suitability of human DNA with the company’s general work culture and principles and team is carefully examined. “Only when people get along well with each other will it be possible to maintain a good indoor climate and the joy of cooperation. At the same time, such openness and working in a very fast-changing environment may not be suitable for everyone, ”adds Ulejev. “And it is very important that for our people it doesn’t matter what background or nationality the other person is from. There is always something in common in different nationalities and cultures, and this makes people feel comfortable and safe at work. We also can’t find classic jacket clips in our house, rather the atmosphere is free and we definitely appreciate good humor. ”
According to Uba, Betsson Group employees also have a high level of self-motivation, because no one here monitors the working hours and when someone started or stopped working. At different times and in different places, a hybrid office has been commonplace for years. “And in the same way, initiative is expected, ie making suggestions and thinking along: if a person wants to do things that benefit the company and be a man and do it! In such a large company, it is not possible to prescribe the role of everyone, but it is formed according to their skills, interests and wishes. This gives our business team a good opportunity to test their experience in different markets, come up with great solutions and share them around the world. ”
About 30 roles are constantly open in Betsson Group’s Tallinn unit, where talents in their field are expected. “And we don’t know national borders, we are flexible in people’s choices, we value diversity very much,” says Saaron-Juhanson. “It is a pleasure to say that whoever finds the way to the Betsson Group will usually stay here for a longer period of time. Working in a large technology company is stable and secure, which is also shown by the high satisfaction index of our employees and low labor turnover. We are also proud of the awards we have achieved for the excellence of our employees, which has already accumulated in the last two years. They increase motivation and will continue to be a great goal. ”
