After many rumors and double counts, the next Battlefield title is now unveiled. The new game is named Battlefield 2042 and DICE offers several both expected and unexpected news, which our sibling site FZ got to take part in advance. On the game site, editor-in-chief Carl Johansson Sundelius tells more about his first impressions.
Already early in their statements, DICE promised a game in a completely new size scale, and they keep that promise. For PC and the latest consoles, Battlefield 2042 supports up to 128 players per course and even larger game surfaces than previous titles. The previous generation’s consoles, however, have to settle for 64 players and slightly shrunken tracks.
Battlefield 2042 is launched with seven new courses and DICE confirms the game modes Conquest and Breakthrough. There will also be a historic game change in the former, where individual flags are replaced by flags grouped in sectors. To conquer a sector, all its flags need to be taken over first. The plot takes place as speculated in the near future and in several different places around the world. To balance the large new tracks, it will also be possible to call on vehicles, instead of being forced to pick them up at specific locations.
DICE also opts out of its traditional soldier classes for a system based on older title categories. Players can choose between ten different named specialists with different unique characteristics as a basis, which can then be further tailored to their own taste, with the exception of certain locked abilities.
With Battlefield 2042, DICE continues to talk about Levolution, where different events change the course of the game. Here, DICE mentions that the space rocket in Orbital may explode, but also that tornadoes or sandstorms can pull in over other orbits. Here, the last word on what takes Levolution to the next level has not yet been said.
Battlefield 2042 launches on October 22, 2021 and will be available for PC, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X / S, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
