Initially, the rescue service stated that there had been an explosion. This was later changed by the rescue service. It was a powerful, rapid fire in a battery.

– There must be a fire in battery cells. We have eight units in place, Stefan Peterson, internal commander at the rescue region Mälardalen, told Aftonbladet.

According to the police, three people were taken to hospital with minor inhalation injuries. In addition, another 17 people will be taken to hospital for check-ups.

In early November took place a similar accident when several people had to seek hospital care.

Northvolt states in an email to Aftonbladet that everyone involved is well.

“Just before lunch, smoke developed at Northvolt Labs in Västerås from a battery cell. This resulted in the fire alarm and the automatic extinguishing system being activated. The situation was handled together with the local authorities according to the safety routines we have in place, and is now under control.”

“As part of these routines, a number of people who had potentially been exposed to the smoke have sought medical attention for a routine examination. All persons are said to be well.”
