We first had the 310-horsepower turbo engine and all-wheel drive, the first own design of the Cupra brand just celebrating its 3rd birthday, the Formentor leisure car, now we report on the other end of the range, the 150-horsepower turbocharged, front-wheel drive base model.

There is also air, climate control and a charging point

The line drawing is well highlighted by the Desire-red paintwork (350,520 HUF), the heads turn in the increasingly graying traffic. Inside, the view is also striking, in addition to the copper-colored ornaments, the digital displays are also spectacular, unfortunately the handling of the central touch screen requires habit. It no longer responds to touch (half a second or longer), it is difficult to aim and poke while driving because the body moves a lot due to tight chassis tuning. As long as we can easily achieve high cornering speeds on good asphalt, control is child’s play with precise steering, the Formentor moves very awkwardly in poor quality corners, it simply bounces.

Strong and with a test average of 7.5 l / 100 km, the basic cylinder-clutch engine consumes well

Sporty tuning is part of the brand image anyway, and with the 1.5-liter turbo engine, you can’t complain about the front of the house either. It is worth holding the steering wheel with a strong hand, because you can feel the driving influence in the first and second gears, but not only is the four-cylinder under pressure, it can also be spun. The seven-speed DSG transmission shifts gently, it’s worth switching to manual control for fast pace. There is also a cylinder cut-off on board, this car is also used a lot, so it is understandable to accept acceptable test consumption. The purchase price corresponds to what is charged for premium opponents.

Red is a very striking phenomenon on the roads in Formentor

• driveability
• spacious passenger compartment
• appearance
• touch screen management
• tight chassis tuning

Even if not at half price, but significantly cheaper than the 310-horsepower VZ, the Cupra gives the basic 150-horsepower Formentor model, which is able to move at a fast pace so that its consumption remains acceptable. In the Hungarian reality, however, the chassis tuning is too tight, it tends to bounce off the selected curve in the wrong way.
