In Serbia, about 446,000 people live on the borderline of absolute poverty and are directly dependent on food donations, while on the other hand, two million kilograms of food is thrown away every day. Guided by these facts, in 2021 the campaign to increase food donations “Save food, save humanity” was launched, and since the beginning of this initiative, the Bambi company has donated more than 11 tons of products to the most vulnerable citizens across the country.
By raising awareness about the necessity of increasing donations as well as solving the problem of food waste, first of all we are working to reduce one of the biggest problems of today – poverty, but it also points to the preservation of the environment through the reduction of waste caused by excessive food waste, as well as the necessary burning of products before they expire deadline.
“In the year when we are celebrating 55 years of business, through the “Save food, save humanity” campaign that is implemented Coalition for Charityand leads Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation, we helped the most socially vulnerable citizens through donations to Food Banks in Belgrade, Vojvodina and Niš. In addition to the donation of our products, we also provided media space with the aim of providing additional support to the campaign and raising the awareness of citizens about the problem of excessive amount of wasted food,” said Ivan Jovanović, corporate communications manager of the Bambi company.
For the second year in a row, the company Bambi has received a certificate of appreciation of the Serbian Philanthropic Forum i Coalitions for charity for contributions to the Save Food, Save Humanity campaign, awarded on National Day of Giving, October 9.
Željko Mitkovski from Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation he pointed out that during two cycles of the campaign, more than 112 tons of food were collected, and Bambi participated in the total amount donated with as much as 10 percent.
„Coalition for Charity thanks the Bambi company for continuously donating food and for joining the ‘Save food, save humanity’ campaign this year, helping the most vulnerable across the country and promoting solidarity and social responsibility. We invite other companies to join the campaign by the end of November and donate food or funds for the purchase of food packages at www.spasimohranu.rs”, said Željko Mitkovski.
Together with the partners of the campaign, the company points to the problem of excessive food waste, the improvement of rules and regulations that favor the increase of donations, but also the insufficient number of food donations in Serbia.
