Aves SAD launches new image soon and has already started work on the new facilities

“That revelation is close and hopefully, if not next week, then in two. We are going to announce the image and we are already bringing all the material here. This always takes some time, but we will all be ready before the start of the championship”, said Henrique Sereno, whose SAD will assume a new designation and emblem when moving from Vila Franca de Xira to Vila das Aves in the next era.

On April 15, the partners of the refounded Desportivo das Aves 1930, current leader of Série 4 maintenance in the Division of Honor of the Porto Football Association, approved in an extraordinary general meeting the agreement negotiated with the fifth placed of the II Liga.

Under discussion was a proposal to lease the CD Aves Stadium for a period of 10 years by the emblem of Vila Franca de Xira, a municipality in the district of Lisbon, which is located 320 kilometers from Vila das Aves, belonging to the district of Porto.

This contract is automatically renewable and allows Vilafranquense SAD to resolve the process of selling the respective license to participate in the II Liga and start taking over the youth teams of Aves 1930, whose current football section will cease at the end of June.

“The licensing of Aves SAD is in order and has been done [junto da Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional] with the utmost naturalness. We started work on the stadium and are carrying out renovations inside the changing rooms, in the box area and in the lighting system. In addition, the [dois] training camps have already started to be made, because we want to start really strong this next season”, specified Henrique Sereno.

Vilafranquense SAD has been playing at home in Rio Maior, located 50 kilometers from its host city, since rising to the II Liga, in 2018/19, and is fifth, with 45 points, being removed from the fight for direct promotion to I Liga and access to the play-offs.

The administration was determined to leave Vila Franca de Xira, four years after acquiring Vilafranquense for 1.8 million euros (ME), and the founding club members approved in 2022 the sale of a 10% stake in the company .

Henrique Sereno spoke at the end of a private game played this morning between Vilafranquense SAD and Desportivo das Aves 1930, which was witnessed by around 100 spectators at Estádio do CD Aves and ended with a rout by the Ribatejo team (6-0) .

In a clash with two halves of half an hour, the French-Algerian Menaour Belkheir (five and 10 minutes), the Ivorian Balla Sangaré (21 and 30+1), Bernardo Martins (17) and Né (33), in own goal , scored for the team coached by Ricardo Chéu, who had lost the day before in the visit to Leixões (0-2), for the 33rd and penultimate round of the II Liga.

“This game was based on a proposal made by the president of Aves 1930 and we gladly accepted it. Six members of this team will do the pre-season with us. It is a prize for them, as they have suffered a lot due to the limitations imposed on the club, and a way of trying to get closer to this land”, explained Henrique Sereno, who only reveals at the end of the season if Ricardo Chéu will be the first coach in history of the future Aves SAD.

Professional football will return to Vila das Aves, a parish in the municipality of Santo Tirso, three years after the ‘goodbye’ to the First League of the winner of the 2017/18 edition of the Portuguese Cup, who has been prevented by FIFA from registering new players for two seasons , following the insolvency of SAD, responsible for having accumulated debts of 17.1 ME to 110 creditors.

Demoted through sports to the II Liga in 2019/20, the company then led by the Chinese Wei Zhao faced several unilateral terminations of players, technical staff and employees and failed to obtain a license for the professional competitions of the following season, without competing in the Portuguese Championship , then third national level.
