Authorities try to save 10-meter whale on Fonte da Telha beach in Almada – Sociedade

A whale measuring about 10 meters long, in a “dying” situation, is mobilizing resources from the Maritime Authority on the beach at Fonte da Telha, in the municipality of Almada. The animal is in the sea, about 100 meters from the beach, “alive but not reactive”, he explained to CM Commander Diogo Vieira Branco, captain of the Port of Lisbon.

The Maritime Authority has a team on land, “which, as a precaution, moved people away”, and another at sea “which has already made several attempts to take the whale to high seas, moving it away from the coast, trying to avoid the dashing”. However, these attempts were unsuccessful. “The animal is not reactive”, says the commander.

The Maritime Authority is already in contact with the ICNF – IInstitute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests.
