Prague – At the end of the European League group, the volleyball players lost in a changed line-up with the Belarusians 2: 3 after sets 22:25, 18:25, 25:20, 25:21 and in a tie-break 8:15. The Czechs already had a certain lead in group C before the match and progressed to the Final Four.
“I decided to give the players a chance who haven’t been very involved in the game so far. They were nervous at first, but I’m proud of how they fought and led the match to the fifth set. The result may have been happier, but the girls showed me that I can count on them in the upcoming matches, “Greek coach of the Czech team Jannis Athanasopulos in a press release.
After two lost sets, the volleyball players managed to enter the third set thanks to Lucie Nová’s submission. With the help of a video, they got into the lead at 9:20 pm and Pavlína Šimáňová decided to win the set at the service, which, among other things, recorded two aces. Even in the fourth set, the Czechs gained an advantage from the beginning of their fighting spirit, which they maintained safely until the end.
The Belarusians managed to start better in the decisive set and after a direct point from the service they took the lead 2: 0. The Czechs leveled, but then Šimáňová did not make it through the block and Eva Svobodová had a step. After Lucie Nová’s attack on the castle, the score was 5:10 and the Czechs did not reverse the tie-break.
The volleyball players in the group scored four wins and two defeats in five sets. The Final Four will take place on June 19 and 20 in the Bulgarian city of Ruse. The year before, the Czechs celebrated the overall triumph and a year earlier won silver. Last year, the competition did not take place due to coronavirus.
