More than two years have passed since the presentation of the Jeep Gladiator. Initially its commercialization in Europe was going to start in 2020 but things have been delayed.
Now at last Jeep has announced that the Gladiator has begun to accept the first orders in Europe for a car that takes up the pick-up segment within the brand after almost three decades of absence.
Jeep Gladiator: a pick-up with a very offroad approach
The Jeep Gladiator is derived directly from Jeep Wrangler JL long wheelbase, adding a cargo bed at the rear. A double cab configuration (four doors) plus a 153 cm long steel box. With respect to the Wrangler JL it is 79 cm longer and with 49 cm more battle; measure 5.59 meters long.
Its engine for the European market is going to be unique, exclusively offering a 3.0 V6 Multijet engine homologated under the Euro 6d regulations with figures of 264 hp and 600 Nm of torque, while the transmission is entrusted to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Its pure performance is a bit less important, but it can reach 100 km / h in 8.6 seconds and roll at a top speed of 177 km / h.
The chassis is a similar stringer structure associated with a third generation Dana 44 rigid axle scheme, sistema 4×4 Selec-Trac and two-speed transfer case with reducer. It also incorporates a limited-slip differential.
For the Spanish market it will be offered exclusively in the Overland finish, as well as a first special launch version called Launch Edition.
In the Overland variant the Gladiator is equipped as standard with an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with compatibility Android Auto y Apple CarPlay, in addition to several USB connectors or Uconnect Box. It also comes standard with a 7-inch digital dashboard, rear-view camera, Park Assist and electronic stability control.
Additional equipment for the Launch Edition includes a front view camera, 18-inch alloy wheels, exclusive logo, hardtop and body-colored wheel arches.
Inside the Launch Edition adds black leather seats, Alpine audio system, Blind Spot Detection with Cross Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning Plus, cruise control with start / stop function and automatic high beams.
The Jeep Gladiator will arrive in European dealerships with 200 official Mopar Jeep Authentic Accessories, and will do so at early 2021 although without a specific date. They have not announced the price either, but at least we already know that it is on its way and that we have little to get the glove.
