Assange nominated for the 2022 Sakharov Prize

by Sabrina Pignedoli – The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is awarded annually by the European Parliament and is the European Union’s highest recognition in the field of human rights. I am very pleased to have been able to collect the signatures to nominate Julian Assange for this important award.

Julian Assange is first of all a symbol: the symbol of the citizens’ right to know the truth. His case and his detention are the representation of how the power tries to ‘punish’ those who do not conform to the pre-packaged truths.

Wikileaks has worked together with the main world newspapers. Assange could have sold the secrets he had come into possession of, and he didn’t do it in the name of freedom of the press. This is why it represents a bulwark of freedom of expression and protection of human rights.
