Suara.com – Divaldo Alves said he wanted to improve the mentality of the Persik Kediri team after he was officially appointed as the club’s new coach. He said this before facing PSM Makassar in the eighth week match of BRI Liga 1 2022/2023, Friday (2/9/2022).
The Portuguese coach realized he did not have much time to fix other shortcomings, so he focused more on the mentality of his foster children.
“Right now the target is not talking about rankings, but a better position. Of course at the beginning I have to restore the mentality of the players. Then we will focus from one game to the next in this Liga 1. This is just the beginning of the season,” Divaldo said as quoted from Antara, Wednesday (31/8/2022).
The Angolan-born coach explained that he had watched Persik’s last match and assessed that there were still many aspects that needed to be improved.

In addition, Divaldo assesses the problems experienced by Persik starting from a less productive front line to the back row which has conceded 14 goals from the first seven matches in Liga 1 this season.
“Indeed I see there are some problems, but I emphasize to all team members, both players and officials not to look back. It’s time to work hard and start from zero again,” said Divaldo.
Persik Kediri is currently slumped at the bottom of the Liga 1 standings with 1 point from seven matches, with one draw and six defeats.
The White Tiger squad — nicknamed Persik Kediri — is also five points adrift of the safe zone.
