A mobile phone app has been developed by the Conscious Buyers Association to help shoppers choose environmentally friendly cleaning products.
The free application contains almost 700 detergents in six product ranges, such as dishwashing and detergents, bathroom and general cleaning products Said the president of the association. The implementation of the application was supported by the European Union LIFE fund, co-financed by the Ministry of Agriculture. For the cleaning products included in the application, manufacturers and distributors were asked to provide a product safety data sheet with a more detailed list of ingredients than on the product. Subsequently, the health and environmental effects of the ingredients were identified on the basis of EU expert databases. They also took into account that whether the product has an eco-label or a hazard statement. Based on these, each product was marked in green, yellow or red.
By scanning the barcode of the given product or entering the name of the product, the program shows the details of the selected product in detail, and the color scale indicates “Good choice!” (green rating), “Go greener!” (yellow mark) or “Use with caution!” (red signal).
According to Emese Gulyás, the application will help customers to avoid the harmful effects of household chemicals.
