Apple presented upcoming reforms to its mobile operating systems

Apple has presented the most important innovations of its upcoming mobile operating system updates in the keynote presentation of its WWDC event. These are iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and WatchOS 10.

The most significant of the three devices in terms of number of devices, i.e. iOS 17, has received reforms to communication applications, easier data sharing, faster and more accurate text recognition, and new applications.

The call application has received an extensive visual overhaul and the user can now customize the call view of each contact in a versatile way. In addition, real-time speech-to-text conversion is now available for incoming voicemail messages. FaceTime now supports video and audio messages and reactions. The Messages messaging application supports the possibility to create Live stickers based on photos, the Check In feature, a more versatile search using filters, real-time monitoring of the shared location and transcription of voice messages.

AirDrop has received new features, of which the NameDrop feature enables easy sharing of contact information by touching the phones to each other, and with the same gesture you can also share music, videos and games using SharePlay.

The automatic text correction has now been updated to use a completely new language model based on machine learning, which also supports sentence-level grammatical corrections.

The new StandBy feature offers easily viewable and user-customizable content on the phone’s screen while it is charging. The new Journal app is a journal app that uses machine learning and automatic suggestions to keep the user’s personal information locally encrypted.

According to Apple, the WatchOS 10 update is a milestone for the company’s watch operating system. The company says that it has renewed the user interface and applications so that essential information is faster and easier to access. The new Smart Stack view, which opens by rotating the crown button, offers widget cards that are suitable for the situation and time and adapt to the user’s needs. Control Center now opens directly from the side button on top of any application. The new dials are represented by Palette, which changes color, and Snoopy, which takes its theme from the classic cartoon.

There are new features for cyclists, such as displaying live information simultaneously on the phone screen, automatic connection to Bluetooth accessories, and fall detection. For hiking enthusiasts, the Compass application is available, which can automatically mark on the map the location of the latest telephone network and the contact point of an emergency call. There are also topographic terrain maps with a three-dimensional waypoint option. As the name suggests, the new Mental Health application is intended for monitoring and analyzing the user’s mental well-being and mood.

The most important innovations of iPadOS 17 include a renewed, more customizable lock view, interactive widgets in the lock and home view, smart new PDF and note-taking features, updates to messaging apps also familiar from iOS, Safari profiles and the ability to lock tabs, and a completely new Health app optimized for the tablet screen.

The new software versions will be available as a developer beta today and as a final version for general distribution next fall.
