There is very little time left before Apple’s presentation at WWDC, which means that soon we will see the coveted virtual reality helmet. It is already approximately known how it will look and what applications it will be able to run, and every day new facts about the long-awaited gadget emerge. Apple used a lot of new technologies to manufacture their glasses, which led to problems in production. This is due to the fact that it is not fully established, which is why the company loses a lot of money every day. Now it is clear why even the bosses do not expect profit from this device – at this stage it is the most unprofitable.

We already know something about the functionality of the gadget and its cost from previous leaks. The only question is What will Apple virtual reality goggles look like? – this is what worries the fans of the brand the most. In one of the last insiders there was information that the device would look like ski goggles, which is quite true. Back in the spring there were rumors that Apple helmet will be bulkywhich was confirmed by the recent news about the problems in development.

Let me remind you that initially Tim Cook himself was interested in making the device really look like ordinary glasses, but over time, the appearance changed beyond recognition, which is why the Apple boss lost interest in the product. So, the mixed reality headset will most likely be very similar to those on sale now – for example, the helmet from PlayStation VR or Quest Pro, which is currently being distributed at a huge discount. In any case, this is how the concept describes them.

The control button will be responsible for switching between VR and AR

At the same time, there will be two physical control buttons on the case, one of which is located on the right, it will look like the Digital Crown from the Apple Watch. She is rumored to be called Reality Dial, which will allow you to switch between virtual reality and augmented reality. The other will be responsible for navigating menu items and applications.

The glass will be very thin – it is easier to break it than the iPhone screen

Apple glasses design will be curved, and the front glass panel will be framed in an aluminum frame. From the inside there will be sensors and cameras that will monitor the movement of the eyes, and a screen can be installed in front! Engineers even joke that this filling is needed in order to show the user’s facial expression.

This is probably not just a rivet, but a connector for charging glasses.

Apple glasses strap will strongly resemble the design of the analogue from the Apple Watch, but it will not be possible to remove it completely. On the one hand, it will come out of the case, so changing it to a custom one with Aliexpress will not work. Well, and the most unpleasant thing is that the glasses will work from a separate power supply, similar to a power bank. It will connect to a strap clasp that resembles a MagSafe adapter or an Apple Watch charger.

What is known about the Apple VR helmet

Apple is slowly setting up production of a new gadget, but not everything is so smooth. Due to the use of a mass of new technologies, the company had to develop non-standard components. For example, a curved motherboard that could fit inside and still not make the glasses heavy. Solid compromises!

In addition, the design team insisted that the front curved Apple glasses glass was very thin: the developers had concerns due to the fact that the glass available at that time could distort the image from the cameras. This could cause nausea and dizziness in users. However, the fact that it is easier to break it than the iPhone screen, they decided to push into the background – the convenience of users is more important.

But these are far from all problems: due to the fact that the headset has a curved design, it is more difficult for assemblers to install components inside. Inside it are many modules that have to be inserted at an uncomfortable angle. All these difficulties lead to the fact that the assembly of the case and cameras takes an order of magnitude longer than other Apple gadgets. It didn’t help that the company made slight design changes in April to make production easier.

And Apple also breaks its own rules: do you remember that faulty gadgets are rejected and sent for recycling? So, because of the high cost of micro-OLED displays, the company has to repair Defective VR headsetsrather than throwing them away. Rumor has it that because of all these difficulties, out of 100 points collected, only 20 units correspond to quality standards. In particular, because of this, a shortage of almost 250,000 devices is expected in 2023.

However, production problems are absolutely normal and after some time Apple will be able to fix them. The Luxshare factory is fully staffed, which means that the work will be in full swing: despite the difficulties in the production of OLED panels and a large percentage of defects, Apple will release about half a million headsets by the end of the year, and sales will begin in the fall or winter.
