- Do you still remember the iPhone with USB-C connector?
- Its creator sold it for an incredible amount
- Another handyman followed in his footsteps and went even further
A few months ago, it was written quite intensely about Kenn Plonlon, who took the iPhone X and its Lightning connector replaced by a USB-C port. He successfully sold his creation via eBay for almost 2 million crowns. This young engineering student seems to have been an inspiration to other DIYers as another iPhone with a USB port is about to go on auction.
iPhone X znovu s USB-C
That’s right, the iPhone is the only flagship phone in the world that doesn’t have a USB-C port and runs on a proprietary connector. Ken Pillonel’s above-mentioned modification, in which he replaced the Lightning connector with a USB-C port, was successful and fully functional, but with one serious flaw.
The iPhone X, which was used for this purpose, is water and dust resistant to the IP67 standard. However, he lost this feature due to the replacement of the original connector, and this is, of course, a huge pity. If the editor managed to keep it, he would definitely sell his creation for even more money.
New with USB-C and water resistance!
In the footsteps of Kenna Pillonel, another handyman has now set out, namely Gernot Jöbstl. He also used age iPhone X and the main advantage of this modification is, of course, the replacement of the Lightning connector with a more extended USB-C port. But Gernot also handled water and dust resistance.
He managed to incorporate the USB port into the phone in such a way that it maintained its water resistance. This is, of course, good news, and if you are interested in how this young Austrian did it, take a look at the attached one video, which describes the editing procedure.
Coming soon on eBay
Gernot plans to sell his creation via eBay and his auction will begin on January 19. The price is still in the stars, but it is clear that it can climb even higher than in the original project without water resistance, and the modifier plans to invest the money in his other projects. Just as a reminder, the original redesigned iPhone X with USB-C sold for $ 86,001, or about 1.8 million crowns.
