Another failed copy of Snapchat ends. YouTube Stories did not appeal to people – Image and sound – Science and technology

After six years, Google will “cut” the failed copy of Snapchat. YouTube Stories will end on June 26. They will be replaced by the more successful Shorts videos.

Several social networks have tried to copy the popular feature that Snapchat once came with. The so-called “stories” made it possible to share short videos. Only Instagram and Facebook succeeded with an almost perfect copy. Google failed to debut its own service called YouTube Stories. The company will therefore end its operation on June 26 after almost six years. However, YouTube has not completely abandoned the idea of ​​short videos. It will continue to operate the Shorts platform, which allows YouTube video creators to upload and share short videos in addition to full-length content. These, unlike Stories, do not have a limited validity and will remain on the multimedia platform until the creator himself deletes them.

When Stories was presented in November 2017, it did not arouse a very positive response among the public. The popularity was also not helped by the restriction that the service was only available to video creators with more than 10,000 followers. In addition, it was only possible to watch short stories, the availability of which expired after seven days, on a mobile phone, not on a computer. YouTube Shorts were thus a welcome change, despite the fact that their format is almost identical to TikTok videos. The shorts have also gained a lot of fans within a few months. At the end of last year, short videos were watched by more than 50 billion views per day. This number is not final and continues to grow.
