Big numbers always attract consumers. If you have ever tried to use the services of an advisor at any operator, you will notice that no one talks about the processor in a given phone, what materials the smartphone is made of and what type of screen it has. Instead, the first field is focused on less important issues – the amount of RAM, camera resolution or disk capacity. All because for the “average” consumer, terms such as Snapdragon 888 mean rather little, while in terms of RAM, he is able to compare the two models, at least having a substitute for a conscious choice. That’s why manufacturers take advantage of it. The latest sales hit is Virtual RAM, thanks to which the values given by manufacturers in terms of the operating memory of smartphones will soon reach cosmic values.
realme GT with 19 GB of RAM. It really isn’t
Some time ago, we wrote to you that Oppo smartphones will be able to expand their RAM on their own, allocating part of the disk space for it. Now realme, a brand independent of Oppo, probably only on paper, is implementing this solution at the sales stage. I was surprised when I read that a version of their phone with 19 GB of RAM was released – today 16 GB is the maximum and here we are talking about the class of superflaggers, much more expensive than the GT. And after a little research, it turned out that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. In this case, the new version turned out to be the standard GT with 12 GB of RAM, enriched with 7 GB removed from the ROM.
What can I say? It’s 19? There it is. And the fact that such a configuration, if it works at all, will rather have little to do with the speed of a smartphone with 19 GB of RAM physically, is a secondary issue. I omit the fact that I do not know how absurdly difficult tasks would have to be put in front of the device for it to need 19 GB of RAM. However, I am convinced that marketers will not hesitate for a moment to advertise the device in the 2 GB RAM + 6 GB ROM configuration as an 8 GB smartphone. On the one hand, we will have very poor configurations advertised as decent, and on the other – top designs will suddenly have 20, 30 or 40 GB of RAM, because why not attract consumers with large numbers. How it is obtained, no one will probably even mention, and from my perspective – it is cheating the buyer.
I have a feeling that this trick will soon make choosing a smartphone for a customer who is not very tech-savvy might become more difficult than ever.
