ANAD, the first reaction after Simona Halep chose new doping charges! What Ștefan Rohnean, the president of the institution, said
Simona Halep, former WTA leader and double Grand Slam winner, faced new doping accusations from the ITIA. The athlete from Constanța was found with irregularities in her biological passport and considers himself a victim in this whole scandal:
“Now that we’ve clearly established that I was a victim of contamination, they came up with a so-called abnormal blood assessment. Three world-renowned experts studied my blood tests and it was very clear that my blood was completely normal”transmitted, among others, Simona Halep, in a statement posted on social networks.
A day after the outbreak of the scandal, the National Anti-Doping Agency was contacted to provide a reaction on this subject, and through the voice of the president Ștefan Rohnean, the institution conveyed that it does not have the authority to make official statements in this regard:
“We understand the major interest of the mass media and, at the same time, of sports lovers in Romania, but not only, however, in this case, ANAD has no prerogatives in the case management procedure, strictly respecting the jurisdiction of all entities with management attributions the results as well as all the rights guaranteed to the persons who are the subject of this procedure.
The National Anti-Doping Agency reserves the right not to pronounce on this ongoing case, thus complying with the rigors of public communication provided for in the World Anti-Doping Code and in the International Standard for Results Management.
At this stage of the process, all communication is managed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency”said the president of the National Anti-Doping Agency, Ştefan Rohnean, accordingly Agerpres.
Simona Halep has given up collaborating with ANAD
ProSport found out at the end of April that Simona Halep has given up collaborating with ANAD. The athlete’s decision was made a year ago, after choosing Patrick Mouratoglou as her mentor. Bearing in mind that the Romanian let the French technician make many decisions in her place, journalist Cristian Tudor Popescu suspects that even this extremely important decision was influenced by Mouratoglou:
“It didn’t seem to me that Simona would have resentment towards Mouratoglou neither now nor when she went to train Rune. He should have kept in touch with ANAD. It was an unfortunate gesture, but I think this gesture doesn’t belong to him either. I don’t think he had anything to do with doping in any direction”Cristian Tudor Popescu declared for ProSport.
Simona Halep no longer consulted with ANAD specialists after changing her staff
Gabriela Andreiașu, the head of ANAD, revealed that many athletes consult with the specialists of the institution she leads before taking a substance, and in the past Simona Halep also did this, but she gave it up for more than a year, since her changed the staff. Halep fired the people who have been with her for up to 30 years, manager Virginia Ruzici and physical trainer Theo Cercel, to work exclusively with a technical staff established by Patrick Mouratoglou.
“In the past, Simona used to contact us, but since she changed her staff, she hasn’t done that anymore. It’s clear that he didn’t check his meds, or if he had treatment, we don’t know who prescribed it, if it was checked or not. Simona Halep has doctors or people with medical training by her side. When someone prescribes a treatment, that person has to make sure it’s not banned, they check it on the banned list.
I understand that Simona doesn’t know how the medicine got into her body, and she hasn’t asked us about these treatments for over a year. David Popovici calls us at any hour, many athletes still call us. Maybe he consulted with international specialists, we don’t know. We have all the lists of these drugs on the website and they can be searched at any time”stated the director of the National Anti-Doping Agency, according to Gândul.
