An open-air mural exhibition “comes to life” in Athens

The Municipality of Athens invites citizens, institutions and Institutions to propose their own wall for the creation of new murals.

Color and “breath” in the facades of the buildings of Athens aspires to give the pioneering program of public murals implemented by the Municipality of Athens, highlighting in this special way the contemporary Art in the urban landscape.

Along with public murals in schools, the program extends to private buildings located in the center and neighborhoods of Athens. The goal is to fill the city with beautiful colors and to be an outdoor “exhibition” of murals, organized and with absolute respect for public space.

Citizens of Athens, Institutions, public and private bodies, have from today the opportunity to address the Municipality of Athens and propose their own wall surfaces that could be used for the implementation of murals, provided that their property is within the limits municipality’s.

“The program of public murals extends to all neighborhoods of Athens and to the seven municipal districts. The goal is for the city to acquire more color and with “canvas” its buildings to highlight the contemporary Art through the eyes of its exponents, the young and talented street artists. The murals are created to highlight different parts of the city, to send optimistic messages and to inspire. “Little by little, every day, Athens changes with these interventions”, emphasizes the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis.

Those interested can send the address of the property, the photo of the surface of the proposed wall, as well as their contact details to the e-mail address: [email protected]

It is recalled that the first touches of the street artists participating in the program, gave a renewed look to school buildings in the city. Two unique murals, dedicated to our popular painter Theofilos and the important Greek poet Andreas Kalvos, were recently completed at the 104th Elementary School of Athens and the 18th Unified High School of Athens, upgrading the aesthetic image of the buildings, giving smiles and inspiration to students.

At the same time, two more murals in schools in Athens are in the process of implementation and will be completed by the end of the year.
