An innovative solution for repairing forest fires: Dronet plants new trees

New drones dropping seeds are orbiting the Croatian skies with the aim of reviving areas affected by forest fires. Project starters are trying to make the project available to the whole world. The tactic is not new, however Reuters according to Croatian drones have larger containers for seeds than before. Golf ball-sized containers contain ingredients to ensure the best possible growth environment for the seeds.

Project leading company Magic Forestin Goran Ladisic says the company has put sand, grass, clay and chilies in the tank in addition to the acorn. Chile was added to the ranks so that wild animals would not eat the seeds.

In Croatia, summer forest fires occur in areas that are difficult to reach on foot, making it much more sensible to fly seeds. This week, Magic Forest dropped seedballs in the Promina area.

The company has been working on the project for more than two years. According to Ladisic, in the experiments, more than 40 percent of the seeds began to grow. According to Ivan Vidavokic, who is in charge of the flights, with four or five drones, the project can cover an area of 10 hectares in 8 hours.

The goal is to plant trees in the area that are already growing there. Although the project has only been used for seeds of different oak species, the same practice is promised to work with the seeds of any tree.

Magic Forest says it has been in contact with partners in Ukraine, Bosnia, Montenegro, Austria and California. The intention is to get the product available next year. The Croatian company also plans to take part in a European Union project to plant 3 billion trees by 2030.
