An elegant reply to the ugly

Rarely, more and more rarely, our country experiences cultural events at a high level. Romania these years is dominated by mundane nothingness.

They have taken over the news and evening programs, they impose two lei stars and outline a boulevard agenda that buries almost everything. Big projects, debates, cultural events, economic successes or ingenious solutions, all sink into the fog. Since when has Romania not experienced a book launch with hundreds of people in line? Since when did the public not sit in line to see an exhibition of drawings or paintings? For reasons of stupid politics, profit and cultural level, the authorities summarize the culture at Untold and Neversea festivals. The rest are unjustly immersed in anonymity. The truth is that the Ministry of Culture is being dragged by people without access to the arts and with zero European cultural connections.

Doina Levintza’s museum in danger

At the end of 2021 and its beginning, we had an impressive exhibition of master Mircia Dumitrescu. The work and performance of the academician and the professor have faithfully illustrated the peaks of a cultural era in Romania. The staff of the National Museum of Art of Romania was a culmination for a man, an opera and an artistic period. Did Mircia Dumitrescu’s exhibition enjoy public attention? Was it received as a celebration? Use Google to see how the Romanian press received such an event! By doing so, you will understand the importance of culture in our public life.

Not long ago, designer and costume designer Doina Levintza turned eight decades old. How was the event marked in the country where Doina Levintza’s work delighted the eye, the spirit and marked the performing arts? Search the net and make a comparison between what was written in one week about a starlet and how Doina Levintza’s birthday was covered in the media!

Happy Birthday: Classic Doina Levintza

I invoked that embarrassing situation of three years ago for the cultural life of the country because these days in the ARCUB Cultural Center, Doina Levintza opened a monumental exhibition, full of surprises and focused on unique works, with polychromes and impressive contours, “Levintza brand ”. It looks like a royal of lines, color, multimedia solutions, clothing and ambiance. I do not think that such an exhibition can be seen in too many places in Europe and in the world. And yet, it does not seem to me to be valued and publicized according to its uniqueness. It’s not just about the dimensions, the exhausting work to make it, but about the quality of the exhibits, their placement in space or the reunion of dozens of unique pieces from his fashion creation.

A manifesto for beauty: Doina Levintza

The vision of a great artist, creator of fashion, theater and film costumes, sets and media projects is illustrated on several levels and rooms at ARCUB. The ARCUB Cultural Center from Lipscanilor (exceptionally restored and open to cultural events) hosts this unique exhibition dedicated to Doina Levintza’s fashion creation. Unfortunately, the exhibition did not capture the attention of journalists, overwhelmed by the events in Ukraine and the political and social scandals.

Undoubtedly, Doina Levintza’s fashion staff is an event for a Bucharest that is less and less visible on the cultural agendas. It is worth seeing and cherishing, being a discreet replica of tattoos, sports shoes with platforms and twists, with torn blouses and pants, with the marks written big on the chest and back, ostentatious for crows and fools.

Doina Levintza opposes ARCUB to a crazy fashion of Cola origin, a mystery of black and prom dresses, a captivating beauty of women’s clothing from classic to eccentric.
