Barcelona. It was briefly very quiet at the Camp Nou when Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 3-1 in La Liga on Tuesday night.
In the second half, Barcelona player Ronald Araujo suddenly lay disturbingly still on the turf, and an ambulance rolled in to transport the defender off the pitch.
Shortly before, he and teammate Gavi had banged their heads together. At first, Araujo just ran on before falling to the grass.
Araujo’s teammates and opponents seemed quickly clarified and had no problems completing the showdown as the ambulance and the many rescuers had left the turf.
Barcelona have stated on Twitter that Ronald Araujo has suffered a concussion and that he has been transported to the hospital, where he will be checked through.
Barcelona, who had Martin Braithwaite on the bench, were overmatched by the visitors for long periods of the showdown, but through great efficiency it ended with a comfortable victory.
From the very beginning of the match, Barcelona limped.
Celta Vigo were well prepared and played their way around Barcelona’s pressure. But it was a Barcelona mistake that led to the visitors’ first big chance.
Ronald Araujo totally cracked in the back line and gave Celta Vigo top scorer Iago Aspas a free-kick. However, the attacker was not fast enough and Araujo even saved the chestnuts from the fire.
After half an hour, Barcelona suddenly woke up. Ousmane Dembélé unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors’ keeper did well to tip wide.
Celta Vigo, however, continued to play good football and Marc-André ter Stegen had to dish up a great save when Thiago Galhardo kicked on goal from distance after 36 minutes.
But again, it went Barcelona’s way. Five minutes after Celta Vigo’s big chance, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang suddenly stood in the right place when a loose ball danced around the field, and then he scored to make it 2-0.
A few minutes into the second half there was bingo again. Dembélé struck again on the right flank and again put the ball in front of goal. This time it was Aubameyang who got it served and scored to make it 3-0.
Iago Aspas kept a bit of tension in the showdown, as he was soon after played completely free in front of goal and scored stone-safe with a flat finish.
Then the incident happened with Ronald Araujo and the match was put on hiatus for several minutes. When it was resumed, Riqui Puig scored to make it 4-1, but his goal was canceled.
