Alien: Ripley’s watch gets a new lease of life thanks to Casio

Casio is riding the wave of nostalgia by launching a new series of its vintage F-100 watch: the first generation served as the basis for the watches worn by the Nostromo crew members, in other words… by Sigourney Weaver in Alien!

For Alien, the props designers have been imaginative to give a futuristic look to the watches worn by the Nostromo crew, and in particular by Ripley (Sigourney Weaver): glue two Casio F-100s one above the other ! A simple but very effective idea, which helps give Ridley Scott’s masterpiece this very modern patina (for a 1979 film!).

Four buttons on the front

This watch is very special, since it incorporates four buttons under the screen that control the different display modes, the chronograph and the activation of the backlight. Incidentally, it was the first Casio watch designed in plastic, which has become common in many entry-level watches.

The manufacturer has decided to start production of a new series called A100. For the occasion, Casio trades resin for metal, both for the frame and for the bracelet. Three colors are available: silver, black and gold, and of course we find the vintage design of the original, in particular the four buttons which offer the same functions as the original. There’s even a special Pac-Man edition!

The A100 will be available in August, priced at 90 $. In Aliens, the direct sequel to the first episode, Ripley wears a Giugiaro 7A28-7000 from Seiko, which the latter has also relaunched to the delight of collectors.
