“Alarm” for the high cases of Sunday and the increase of the intubated

The data on the course of the coronavirus pandemic in our country are causing intense concern, based on the latest data announced by EODY, on Sunday afternoon. In the last 24 hours, 1,269 new infections were confirmed, 36 of our fellow human beings ended up with coronavirus complications, while the number of intubated patients increased to 391.

It is indicative that this is the first Sunday that a four-digit number of cases was announced, after November 29, 2020, when 1,193 cases were recorded. This is problematic, as the tests performed on weekends are fewer than on weekdays. Specifically, this time 26,330 coronavirus tests were performed, of which 16,718 were molecular and 9,612 rapid.

At the same time, the pressure on the National Health System is stifling, especially in the Attica basin, where almost half of the cases are recorded daily, while there is also the fear of coronavirus mutations, which are more contagious.

At 95% the completeness of the ICUs in Attica – Emergency plan in the NSS

An emergency plan is being implemented to deal with the pressure exerted on the hospitals of Attica. The surge in imports, which reached 665 in the last 48 hours, combined with the fact that the basin is the epicenter of the pandemic outbreak in the country, put the health authorities on alert.

According to the main news bulletin of OPEN, 85 cases of coronavirus were introduced in the last vigil of Attica hospitals. In total, 1,100 patients in Attica hospitals, of which 230 are intubated. It is also emphasized that the coverage of ICUs in the basin reaches 95%.

The same report notes that regarding the pressure on the hospitals in Attica, the government is implementing an emergency plan.

The plan includes:

– immediate development of 70 ICU beds with the aim of reaching 340

– end to transfers from other prefectures

– opening of beds in Chalkida, Corinth and Livadia

– transfer of non Covid incidents. The NIMITS hospital is also included in this design

Detailed data for the hospitals of Attica

In Sismanogleio the vigil started without any available intensive care bed.

In Sotiria all 84 beds of the ICU are occupied

In Evangelismos until a few hours ago there was only 1 available bed out of 45 in total

In Attiko, all 33 beds are occupied

In Thriasio there is no bed available out of 17 in total

All 12 beds in the Asclepieion are occupied

In Elpis out of 6 in total there is none available

In Nimetz, all 6 are occupied

The pressure on EKAB is also great, as from last week the deliveries with incidents or suspicious Covid incidents have doubled. Specifically, from 80 to 160 and in fact 90% of patients needed treatment. This fact was confirmed by the president of the Hellenic Pulmonary Society and pulmonologist at Attikon Hospital, Stelios Loukidis, who said on Saturday that “it is probably the biggest pressure, in terms of imports, on the National Health System in Attica since the beginning of the pandemic “. The situation is still considered under control, however the anxiety is great.

Everything shows extension of the lockdown until Shrove Monday

The data are discouraging for the lifting of the restrictive measures and everything shows that the lockdown in Attica will be extended until Shrove Monday. This, after all, has been suggested by most experts for days, while there are many voices that say that even these two weeks may not be enough to bring the desired result and there will be no going back.

Elias Mosialos expressed the need to continue the implementation of the measures in Attica for a short period of time, as there is an increase of cases despite the lockdown and consequently great pressure on the NSS. In an interview with SKAI, the professor of Health Policy at the LSE School of Economics, also said that measures can be lifted in areas that are not under pressure, provided that the movement will not be allowed from prefecture to prefecture.

Asked about this, Mr. Mosialos stressed that provided that the Health system in Attica is not pressured, retail could resume operations after March 16, with very strict controls and employees wearing the most reinforced masks. He estimated that after the opening of the retail trade and if there is no outbreak of the disease, the schools will be able to reopen. “Maybe after ten days,” he said, while expressing the view that if more controls are carried out, if we go to open the market, they will be limited to closed spaces, as there is the greatest dispersion. Referring to the coronavirus vaccines, he revealed that he chose to be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine, thus sending a message to the citizens to encourage them to do so. As he said, this vaccine is effective, as it completely protects those over 55 years old.
