AirTag has passed rigorous tests. And withstood everything!

CNet tested Apple’s recently released AirTags. This device is IP67 certified and contains a removable battery, so in theory it is not strong, but what is it really?

At first, the experimenters “forgot” the AirTag in the pocket of their jeans and put them to wash together with other clothes for almost an hour. During the washing process, a search through the Locator application was involved, and the sound from the tag could be heard, although the rumble from the rotating drum almost completely drowned it out. After such an attraction, AirTag remained operational, even the speaker was not damaged, only the body was slightly scratched.

Then the AirTag was placed in the freezer. He spent a whole night at -19 degrees Celsius, drenched in water in an ice compartment. In the first hours, the geotag made a sound while searching, and then fell silent due to the fact that the water had hardened, and the speaker had no room to move. When the gadget thawed at room temperature, it turned out that water got into the battery compartment, so additional drying was required with the case open. Even after that, the AirTag did not break, it could be used further. The third test was the drop test. The AirTag was placed in a Spiegen leather case and dropped about ten times from different heights onto a hard surface. The geo beacon did not crack, and scratches on its case appeared only after it fell out of the case. As in previous tests, nothing dramatically serious happened, only the appearance of the gadget suffered, which did not affect its performance in any way.

AirTag is used to track items and it is important that the tag survives even in extreme conditions. The experiments carried out show that it is quite strong and tenacious. Undoubtedly, it can be destroyed (for example, drowned, burned or put under the press), but in this case, the thing to which it is attached will also be fatally damaged.
