Ahead of F1 Turkish GP, Honda Racing Team Wears New ‘Cloak’

DAPURPACU – The Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri teams will use a special livery ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix F1 racing series this weekend.

Logo with a unique message that reads ‘arigato’ or in Japanese means ‘thank you’, which is pinned on the sides and wings of the RB16B car.

It was stated that the livery was a form of appreciation for the two teams to Honda, as well as Honda Racing F1’s gratitude to their fans in Japan.

Unfortunately, the F1 series which took place at the Suzuki Circuit had to be canceled due to restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Rides belonging to the Red Bull Racing team are dominated by white combined with red. This color combination is inspired by the Honda RA 272 race car, where the American racer – Richie Ginther won his first victory in the 1965 Mexican GP F1 event.

As information, Honda has decided to withdraw from the F1 event at the end of this season. However, Honda and the Red Bull Group agreed to continue working together in various motorsport events, including F1, developing young drivers and so on.

In addition, the Red Bull Group is also entitled to use the Honda powertrain in 2022, as a form of Honda’s support for both teams in next year’s racing season.

Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing Honda CEO and Team Principal said, “The collaboration between Red Bull and Honda has produced positive and successful results in motorsport events.

“We are proud that the Red Bull Powertrains project will be supported by Honda, technically and operationally in 2022. Although Honda’s journey in F1 is coming to an end, but together we will begin an exciting new journey,” said Horner.

“We are proud to have reached this agreement regarding the IP for the F1 Power Unit. That way Honda can still contribute to the world of racing,” said Koji Watanabe, Chief Officer for Brand and Communication Operations, Honda Motor Co Ltd.

On the other hand, Scuderia AlphaTauri’s Team Principal, Franz Tost, said he was disappointed with the absence of Japanese F1 this season, which was supposed to be Honda’s last home GP.

“We are looking forward to our Japan trip even more than usual, because it will be great to see Yuki Tsunoda compete in front of the fans at that circuit,” explained Tost.

“The simple ‘arigato’ message on the rear wing of both cars is just a small gesture to say thank you to all our Japanese fans, during the Istanbul race.”

The Turkish F1 Grand Prix series was held at the Istanbul Park Intercity Circuit, Istanbul, and was the 16th racing series out of a total of 22 racing series for the 2021 season. [dp/MTH]
