Age of Empires IV reveals plans for new season. A favorite from the second part returns

Age of Empires IV is an excellent strategy for all those who would like to enjoy the design philosophy of the legendary Age of Empires II in a slightly more modern jacket (and the Definitive Edition of two is not enough for them). In addition, the creators from the Relic studio are still working on the fourth volume – they recently added two new civilizations, Mali and the Ottoman Empire. And now they are preparing more improvements.

The most important thing is balancing the Landmarks system. In the new installment, you advance into the next age by building one of two unique buildings that provide specific bonuses, a very nice system that offers different play styles and strategic choices for certain factions. However, it was awkward that in a large percentage of cases it wasn’t even a big decision – one Landmark was simply better and more useful than the other.

In the fourth season starting in February 2023, this should change. There will be a balancing and complete redesign of those buildings that nobody liked for good reasons. They should be both stronger and more unique to attract more curious medieval strategists.

In addition, the good old Nomád mod will also arrive in the fourth season, which my friends and I recorded something in the second part. The thing is, you don’t start classically with a basic Town Center building, instead you just have a few villagers scattered around the map. It is therefore necessary to immediately find the most suitable place for colonization, and interesting plots arise from this, such as when, after ten minutes, you discover to your horror that you have built your center directly between four enemies and the allies must save you as soon as possible.

In addition, the developers are preparing a nice new seasonal map, better user interface, minimap modification – you can find a list of changes here. And I’m slowly starting to wonder if I should install Age of Empires IV over Christmas to try out the new nations…
