Afzal Hossain is a successful agricultural entrepreneur of Lauri village of Monirampur upazila of Jessore. For seven long years, he gradually built an organization called BK Eco Garden and Nursery. Where he cultivates 9/10 types of fruits. Afzal Hossain is the son of Mosharef Gazi of Lauri village.

Where there are 1200 malta trees, 100 orange trees, 4000 Thai kul trees, 12000 dragon pillars, 100 Chuijhal trees, 100 paper lemon trees and 300 Baromase Katiman mango trees. He started this nursery and orchard with one lakh taka and now his capital is around half a crore taka. He is selling fruits worth about 22 to 25 lakh rupees every year.

Afzal Hossain said, since coming to the country, we started cultivating this fruit on two bigha land. At one point it became an addiction. Then I gradually increased the amount of land and planted different types of fruit trees. Currently 9 types of fruits are being produced in my 25 bigha land. I started with one lakh taka, but now my capital is over half a crore. There are plans to increase the amount of space in the future. Upazila Agriculture Office has been supporting me in many ways. If the government provides facilities, we can export all these fruits to foreign countries. Afzal Hussain not only created his own employment. Rather, he has created employment for 20 poor people in the village. Where 20 families are living comfortably with labor. The workers take care of the trees in various ways including trimming the leaves, cleaning the roots, watering them every day. Afzal Hossain also worked with them despite being busy.

Afzal Hossain’s garden employee Chhota Mia said, “We plant trees here from morning, trim leaves, give soil and do various maintenance work. We like to work with green and fruity aromas. We have a total of 20 people working here. Our family lives by working here.

Mintu, another employee, said there are many unemployed youths in the village. If they create such employment then 10 more families in the village can earn a living by working there. Afzal Hossain’s nursery and fruit garden is inspiring people from far and wide.

On his advice, I have prepared such a garden in Chittagong. I believe that if the unemployed youth take the initiative of not chasing jobs, they will become financially independent.

In this regard, Monirampur Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Abul Hasan said that the largest mixed fruit garden in this upazila belongs to Afzal Hossain, a successful agricultural entrepreneur of Monirampur. Perhaps it is the largest in the district. Afzal Hossain is in constant touch with the Agriculture Office. Agriculture Office is supporting him in various ways. In his view, the unemployed youth have taken up the plan to build such a project.
