Africa exceeds 80,000 killed by Covid-19 – World


Africa recorded an additional 1,306 deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours and exceeded 80,000 since the beginning of the pandemic, for a total of 80,939, adding up to 24,468 new cases of infection, according to the latest official data.

According to the African Union’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the number of infected people is 3,308,919 and that of those recovered in the organization’s 55 member states in the last 24 hours was 49,996, for a total 2,755,880 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,556,153 infected and 41,610 killed. South Africa alone, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,356,716 cases and 38,288 deaths.
