Stockholm – Young environmental activist Greta Thunberg has received a stamp issued by the Swedish Post. Reuters recalls that in the past, this honor was given to actress Greta Garbo or football striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
PostNord will start selling the stamps with Thunberg on Thursday. She is depicted in her famous yellow raincoat, looking at a flock of birds on the shore. “We hope that as a large company with a small brand, we can bring attention to an important issue such as climate,” said Kristina Olofsdotter, PostNord’s head of stamps. She added that several million stamps will go on sale with a young activist.
Thunberg became famous when, in 2018, at the age of 15, she began protesting in front of the Swedish parliament in Stockholm for better climate protection. Her example has been followed by thousands of young people around the world who are dissatisfied with politicians’ approach to the climate crisis. Thunberg was at the birth of the Fridays for Future movement. According to Olofsdotter, representatives of the movement approved the form of the stamp with Thunberg, but did not participate in its creation. The new collection of ecological-themed stamps also includes Swedish mountains, lakes and rivers.
