The temptation to buy a desktop computer often comes up against memories from the past, when a monoblock rumbled under the table, wires stretched from it to the monitor, and you also had to connect a keyboard and mouse. In a word, in the wireless world, wires ruled the ball, in which something was constantly confused. The way out of the situation was the appearance of monoblocks – devices in which all the necessary connectors are built into the monitor case, but there is also a motherboard with a processor, memory and everything else. To connect such a monoblock, only one power wire is needed and nothing more. As a typical device, I suggest looking at the Acer Aspire C24, but first let me remind you that there are dozens of configurations for this model. They differ in the presence / absence of pre-installed Windows, different memory and processor configurations. We had a model C24-1700, its characteristics are described above. For you, it may make sense to choose a model with a different amount of memory, not such a fast processor, it all depends on your tasks and the scope of the monoblock. So please keep this in mind and focus on your needs.

The monoblock is packed in a small box, even a child can handle its assembly, you will not need any tools. Gently take out the monoblock, the stand lies separately, it is screwed in with a rotary screw.

Connect the mouse, keyboard and power (do not forget to turn on the mouse), and, in fact, everything, the workplace is ready. You just need to turn on the device (the button is under the screen, exactly in the middle), configure the operating system settings, and you can work. The deployment time of the workplace is a couple of tens of minutes.

Often, a keyboard and mouse are not included with monoblocks, it is good that they are here.

The screen diagonal is 23.8 inches, FullHD-resolution, IPS-matrix, which makes the picture pleasant at arm’s length, and this is the distance that should separate you and the monitor. There is a simple rule here: you get closer, you start to see individual pixels of the screen, which means that you are sitting incorrectly, you need to move back a little. It’s definitely not worth sticking into a large monitor, it’s superfluous.

Above the screen, exactly in the middle, there is a webcam, it has a sliding shutter. For those who care about their privacy, a great solution. The case is made of the usual plastic, the model fits into the interior with ease. The main thing is that there is a matte screen, it does not glare and even when turned off it is pleasant to look at.

On the rear panel you can find all the connectors you need to work.

It is clear that sometimes you need to insert a USB flash drive, climbing behind the monitor is not very convenient, so a USB Type A connector was provided under the screen.

We work on a monoblock, impressions from it

The first thing to remember is that the monoblock is always in front of you, when under load, the fans will work in it, and you will hear a little noise. Not the deafening sound of fans, but quiet operation in the background. When heated, the fans can run louder, but it’s worth setting the monoblock’s settings to a balanced power supply, and everything will work out by itself.

As an office machine, when you need to write texts, watch YouTube, lay out a “kerchief” or work with signs and presentations, everything is fine here. The performance of the solution is enough for the eyes, you will not experience any problems.

For those who want to play, here, of course, there is not enough discrete graphics, and there is no way to integrate cooling into a monoblock. It seems that this is a dead end, but the problem is only imaginary, because there is cloud gaming, and on such a monitor you will get a very good quality of the game. The main thing is that your office or home Internet is up to par. Or you can plug in an Ethernet cable, then the issue of Internet quality will disappear by itself.

Stereo speakers are hidden in the case, they are loud, and it is worth setting them to a maximum of 60-70%, of course, if you do not use a monoblock to show a movie to others, but work yourself.

Using this monoblock, I made a simple judgment: we have a workhorse in front of us, in which everything is arranged logically and simply, there is nothing superfluous. This is an honest hard worker who will cover the needs for ordinary office work and at the same time is very simple, unpretentious and will easily fit into any interior.

In today’s world, when choosing an office computer, laptops are often preferred, they are compact, they can be carried with you. But if your work most of the time takes place in the office, then a monoblock like the Acer C24 gives a fundamentally different quality due to the diagonal of the screen. It is simply more convenient to work with texts, graphics, open applications. And no laptop can do anything to oppose this (few people have fun connecting to an external display). The cost of owning such a laptop is acceptable, there are no additional costs. Therefore, it turned out to be a nice machine that can be recommended as a workplace in the office. It will also be interesting for home use if there are students in the family – schoolchildren or students. The big screen here definitely gives an advantage.
