We tested Acer’s premium category, high-resolution and bright home theater projector.
Acer ApexVision L812
Although Acer has recently announced that it is also moving in new directions, as they have entered the scene with their first scooter and air purifier, this does not mean that the company does not continue to pay attention to already proven product groups, i.e. monitors, laptops or projectors.
The latter family has recently been expanded, among other things, with a home theater projector that looks particularly promising and is basically intended for home users. Based on the parameters of the Acer ApexVision L812, it is a trendy piece, as it has 4K resolution, an ultra-short projection distance and no shortage of smart functions.
Today there are projectors with a particularly strange appearance, but the Acer ApexVision L812 belongs to the traditional models. The white, rectangular device housing is 42.8 centimeters wide, 38.9 centimeters deep and 15.8 centimeters high, and weighs 7.7 kilograms, so it is quite large and heavy, and cannot be called mobile at all. The corners are slightly rounded, which suits the product well, although obviously no one buys a projector to look at it from the outside.
The lens is placed at the top, and there is a control panel on the side, which can be useful if the remote control is not possible for some reason. As expected, the outputs and inputs are at the front, there are two HDMI 2.0, one D-Sub, DC 12V (for electrically controlled screen), Ethernet, Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0 (service port), hidden USB 2.0 a For Wi-Fi adapter (this was plugged into the test copy), digital optical audio and 3.5 mm analog audio output. By the way, the sound and image of laptops with DP Alt Mode support can also be transferred through the USB Type-C port, and of course the charging of the connected devices is also solved.
It is worth noting that the projector can be used upside down and turned sideways, i.e. it can be placed in many ways. According to our measurements, the noise level in Eco mode is 23 decibels from two meters away, and 28 dB in normal mode, which means that its operation can still be heard somewhat from this distance in complete silence.
