Abramovich’s visit to Kyiv is seen as an unofficial attempt to once again establish a dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, reports Bloomberg.

According to insiders, the businessman discussed with members of the Ukrainian delegation the conditions for continuing negotiations.

The last official meeting of the delegations of Ukraine and Russia took place on March 20 in Istanbul.

Roman Abramovich, who has long-standing ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has acted as an informal negotiator since the beginning of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.

As President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky notes, in Russia, Abramovich “represents a side that supports a diplomatic solution to the conflict and an end to the war.”

According to Zelensky, the negotiation process could be definitively disrupted if Russia destroys units of Ukrainian troops that continue to defend Mariupol.

The representative of Roman Abramovich denied the information that the businessman is currently in Kyiv. Member of the Ukrainian delegation Mikhail Podolyak declined to comment.
