Melih Han Bilgin, General Manager of Turkish Petroleum Corporation, stated that the drilling ship Abdulhamid Han would be ready to serve in the Mediterranean again, in his assessment at the Turkey Energy Summit, “Continue the exploration in every corner of the Blue Homeland. We are making the necessities of the plans,” he said.
According to the news of Neşe Karanfil from Hürriyet newspaper; Melih Han Bilgin, General Manager of the Turkish Etroller Anonim Ortaklığı (TPAO), stated that they plan to return to duty in the Mediterranean after the maintenance work of the Abdülhamid Han drilling ship is completed. Bilgin said, “Continue the searches in every corner of the Blue Homeland. In fact, we have planned step by step, where and what we will do week by week, and we are doing the necessities of that plan.” In his assessment at the 12th Turkey Energy Summit, Bilgin stated that the Abdülhamid Han Drilling Ship was anchored off the coast of Taşucu for maintenance works and said, “The preparations are about to be completed. It will be anchored again in the coming days. The new place of duty is planned to be in the Mediterranean,” he said. Explaining that they are searching the region with a new concept related to the works in the Mediterranean, Bilgin noted that they are conducting a salt search and they will again turn to deeper targets for sub-salt structures. “We want to understand the potentials of salt-bearing structures first,” Bilgin said. This is how exploration works carried out above and below the salt deposition known to have occurred in the Mediterranean 5 million years ago. Salt can be found as a layer under the seafloor. Experts said that sometimes there can be gas between these salt layers. Our Fatih Drilling Ship has reached the drilling depth at Çaycuma-1 in the Black Sea. Testing will be completed this week. One of our seismic research vessels is in the Black Sea and the other in the Mediterranean. It’s almost as if we are taking X-rays of the Blue Vatan,” he said. On the other hand, 85% of Filyos Natural Gas Processing Facility and 65% of offshore operations in Sakarya Gas Field have been completed.
DOWNLOADING WITH UNDERWATER ROBOTS
Regarding Black Sea gas, Bilgin stated that they built an energy base 170 kilometers off the land and 2,200 meters below the sea, and said, “We have supplied products from more than 20 countries. We lower our submarine equipment to the bottom of the sea with underwater robots. In this process, our teammates work with the precision of a surgeon. We have a promise. Next year, we will bring this gas to our nation. Our decision is clear, our goal is close. Things are going as planned. In 2023, we will transfer our domestic gas to the national system,” he said.
ON LAND TARGET 207 WELL
Stating that the highest number of drillings in the history of the Republic has been reached for exploration on land, Bilgin said, “This year, we drilled 150 wells, 55 of which were production. We will renew this record next year. Our target is to open 207 wells in 2023, 73 of which are production.” Noting that they have also reaped the fruits of their drilling on land, Bilgin said, “For example, the Martyr Esma Çevik field, which is one of the biggest discoveries of recent years around the world. Here, we produce an average of 1,100 barrels per day. We continue to work in terror-free zones,” he said.
