Prague – A 60-year-old woman from the Prague-Východ district lost almost 4.5 million crowns on the Internet in three months. They were lured away from her by fraudsters who offered her profitable investments, the police said. If caught and convicted, perpetrators face up to eight years in prison for fraud. On website regional police spokesman Pavel Truxa informed about the case today.
The woman reported the incident in mid-May. She signed up for websites that offered money appreciation. “After some time, the woman was contacted by an unknown man who pretended to be an analyst of a foreign company and was responding to her interest in investing, with which he would be happy to help her. The first step at the beginning of investing should have been a basic deposit of 150 euros (CZK 3,500),” said Truxa . On his advice, the woman installed remote access on her computer, through which the man made various transactions. He then showed the woman graphs and statistics on how he invests and evaluates her money.
“After some time, the victim was contacted by a woman who informed her that the company with which she had originally dealt with the investment was fake and that the fraudster had robbed her of her money. However, in order for her to really evaluate the remaining money, she would be happy to help her invest,” added the spokesperson. The woman reinstalled remote access to the computer and supposedly invested 200,000 dollars, which is almost 4,400,000 crowns according to the current exchange rate.
The police repeatedly warns against fraud in the environment of social networks and on website urges caution.
