Prague – Sparta midfielder Lukáš Sadílek is aware that a victory over Slavia in Saturday’s 2nd round of the league extension group for the title would bring his team significantly closer to the coveted trophy. Letenští will go into the third derby in the last month from first place with a two-point advantage over the Vrsovice team. According to Sadílek, it is important that Sparta does not finally concede the first goal in the fourth match against Slavia this season.
“We are excited, it’s the peak of the season. Now we got into the superstructure and won the first game, which was very important. We went to Olomouc mainly for three points, nothing else mattered to us. Now it’s up to us to confirm the victory ( 1:0) in Olomouc. This victory could mean a lot,” said Sadílek v conversation for club television.
The derby will be followed by only three rounds until the end of the season. “Anyone who can do math and put two and two together knows that if we win, the points gap will be quite big. I think if we manage to do that, we’ll be on the best way to achieve what we want the whole season,” said the twenty-six-year-old Sadílek. The last title was won by Sparta in 2014.
Danish coach Brian Priske’s men did not win any of the three derbies this season. In October, they lost in the league at Slavia 0:4, equaling their highest debacle in individual history. In mid-April, they drew 3:3 at home with the “Red and White” and at the beginning of May they again lost to their old rival in the final of the domestic cup 0:2 at Letná.
“It’s going to be very tight. These games are very much about the first goal, whether it was a cup final or a league home derby before that. The team that scores first is then on the horse, they can close it down a bit and come from a secure defense while the other the team has to take a little risk, the floodgates are opening there. I think the first goal will decide,” said Sadílek.
“We have to avoid getting him. This season we haven’t succeeded yet, we’ve always pulled away. If we scored the first goal, I believe we’ll make it to the winning end,” said the Slovácko protege.
He is pleased that Sparta will rest physically before the derby. In the last two weeks, she played the system Wednesday – Sunday. “Perhaps it will help us a little, because I think we were tired in the last matches. Although the commitment was huge, but some of them showed that they had played a lot and that they lack strength. Now it could help us gain new strength and to handle the match on Saturday,” Sadílek pointed out.
