A study reveals which is the happiest city in Spain

What is the place where the happiest people in the world live? To find out, the Institute for Quality of Life and the Happy City Hub in London have carried out a study from which they have extracted a list with the 200 happiest cities in the world in five aspects that they have called population, governance, environment, economy and mobility.

The world podium is occupied by three cities in northern Europe: Aarhus, in Denmark; Amsterdam, in the Netherlands and Bergen, in Norway. To find a Spanish town you have to go down to 69th place.

That is what Bilbao occupies, positioning itself as the happiest city in our country. Four other capitals also sneak into the ranking: Madrid, in 95th place; Barcelona, at 115th; León, at 119th and Valencia, at 125th.

Bilbao’s specific scores were 319.1 points in population; 288.1 in governance; 255.9 in economics; 307.3 in the environment and 294 in mobility.

The authors of the list themselves assure that “it is not possible to establish a single leading city”, but that the most appropriate thing is to “establish a group of cities committed to the cultivation and growth of happiness, where education, inclusive policies, economy, mobility, environmental protection, access to green areas or innovation are not only important components of official policies, but are visible in tangible solutions for residents and with a direct impact on their quality of life” .
