Electric bicycles are now also manufactured in Timișoara – reported the You’re masturbating. The recently handed over plant is owned by a German family business, Corratec. “We are celebrating the opening of our new factory in Timișoara, Romania It is located in Silicon Valley,” the company said in a Facebook post.
Corratec’s site in Temesvár is located on a 50,000 square meter plot, of which the buildings occupy 30,000 square meters. The company’s Romanian subsidiary currently employs 80 people, but recruitment continues. According to the plans, the number of employees should be 200 at the end of the year, and 500 at the end of 2023.
At the same time, I want to ramp up production. In the initial period, the plant will assemble 350-400 electric bicycles per day. I would like to increase this to 600 pieces in a short period of time, and the more distant goal is 1,000 bicycles per day.
“Now we only assemble electric bicycles, but later I would like to bring the production of traditional, mountain bike-type bicycles here as well. The market will show you what the possibilities are. This is a family business: we plan step by step,” Konrad Ihlbacher, the founder of Corratec, told the economedia.ro portal.
The Temesvár plant mainly works with components from Taiwan, which arrive at the port of Constanta. Corratec mainly manufactures premium category products, their most expensive electric bicycle costs 12 thousand euros (4.85 million forints). In the mountain bike category, they also have a product worth eight thousand euros (HUF 3.24 million).
“When it comes to bikes, Corratec is often compared to Ferrari. The bicycle is an important part of the future, of mobility. We don’t have to go everywhere by car, we can also use the bicycle, there are many options,” said Konrad Ihlbacher.
