Specialists from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) presented their development of an electric vehicle to the public. The four-seater three-door KAMA-1 electric car is capable of speeds up to 150 kilometers per hour. The first experimental prototype is made in bright red and does an excellent job of technical testing. In particular, it demonstrated excellent driving performance in snow and frost minus 22 degrees.
“KAMA-1” was developed and created in just two years. Interestingly, in the development process, the technology of “smart digital twin” was used, which is a complex system of digital car models and technological processes, implemented on a single platform.
– The design of our electric vehicle is unique for several reasons. First, it was completely designed and built at the university – educational institution. Secondly, it is designed exactly as a production car. Thirdly, unlike some analogs announced in the Russian market, this is a full-fledged passenger car, a smart crossover. Fourthly, this is an electric car by birth, that is, it was developed from scratch, without any predecessor, – emphasized Oleg Klyavin, Chief Designer of the CompMechLab Engineering Center of SPbPU.
The power reserve of the new car is 250 kilometers, and it takes 20 minutes to charge the battery at a special station. You can also charge it from a household network, which will take about six hours, that is, turned it on at night, and in the morning you calmly go to work. As for St. Petersburg, there are 54 available charging stations for light electric vehicles in the city, and by the end of 2023, according to the plans of the city authorities, their number will be increased to 90.
The project was financed from two sources: the federal budget and KAMAZ PTC funds.
