A ship in a cork bottle

The classic boat in a bottle is not easy to make, but you and your kids can make a slightly easier version. With our help, show the kids how to make a ship in a bottle from corks.

All children, especially boys, enjoy games involving pirate ships, and to awaken their creativity, help them build their own ship in a bottle. This great idea comes from Handmade Charlotte blog and we are sure that it will delight your little ones.

Required material

• Collage paper
• Toothpicks
• Cork stoppers
• Thicker thread

To begin with, make the base of the boat by connecting three corks next to each other and tie them horizontally with string or rope and make a tight knot. After that, wrap the pieces of rope between the corks vertically and tie them tightly.

From the fourth cork, cut a circle that will represent a swimmer in the sea and insert half of a toothpick into it.

Cut a triangle for the sail from the collage paper and punch two parallel holes, one near the top and one near the bottom, then put a toothpick through them (as in the picture).

Make one large and one small sail for the swimmer.

Stick the large sail into the cork base, and the small one into the small circle.

Tie the “swimmer” to the larger boat with string so that it looks like it is being towed.

When you’ve finished everything, it’s time for your boat to set sail.

Fill a large jar halfway with water, put shells and pebbles on the bottom, then put your little boat on top, which pulls the little swimmer behind it.
