The former Department of Palliative Care of the Center for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis of the Daugavpils Regional Hospital has been transformed into a structural unit of intensive care (reanimation) level II with 15 beds for the treatment of critically ill patients infected with the Covid-19 virus.
The project was implemented within the framework of the state budget program from funds for unforeseen expenses. Money for new technical equipment was provided to improve the capacity of hospitals in the fight against coronavirus.
The total funding is 1.15 million euros, of which 331,000 euros was directed to the creation of specialized intensive care for 15 beds.
Thanks to state funding, DRB was able to purchase artificial ventilation devices, specialized functional resuscitation beds with anti-decubitus mattresses, a patient monitoring system, transport capsules, defibrillators and much more.
The new intensive care unit will provide care for patients infected with COVID-19 with concomitant diseases requiring surgery or other inpatient treatment, for example, in cases of strokes or heart attacks.
For this, visiting consultations of specialist doctors will be provided, who will monitor patients with complications.
The expansion of intensive care activities and the consolidation of flows of patients infected with Covid-19 will allow the hospital to provide more planned services and slightly reduce the workload of the medical staff, allowing doctors to finally replace each other when going on vacation.
