Inflation, war and energy crisis.
Christmas is fast approaching, but for many Danes, Christmas 2022 is associated with financial worries.
Several charities are reporting a record number of applications for Christmas aid. Dachser Denmark in Hvidovre has chosen to support locally this year, so that more families can afford to celebrate Christmas this year.
At the beginning of November, Mødrehjælpen was able to announce that 2022 has so far offered a large number of applications for Christmas help from parents who cannot find the financial leeway to celebrate Christmas for their children. In fact, as many as 13,000 applications came in during one month, which is 71 percent more than the same time last year – and applications are open until 9 December.
Therefore the General Manager took over Dachser branch in Hvidovre, Peter Hut, contact Mødrehjælpens Local Association Hvidovre-Rødovre to find out how the company could support some families in the municipality.
“First of all, we wanted to support locally, because we know that many Danes are going through a tough time with the rising prices of groceries and energy,” says Peter Hut. “Especially when the crisis threatens, it is important to be able to gather around the holidays. Therefore, we would like to support as many families as possible to celebrate Christmas.”
Christmas food, Christmas presents and local activities
It is possible to support Mødrehjælpen in several ways. It is possible, among other things, to buy the gifts that the children from the Christmas assisted families have wanted, or you can donate an amount.
Mødrehjælpen supports the poorest families in the country by covering expenses for, among other things, Christmas food and Christmas presents for the children, but the organisation’s local associations also plan local activities.
Dachser’s branch in Hvidovre supports Mødrehjælpen by buying gifts for children in the municipality, by donating an amount, and finally the employees at Dachser Denmark also have the opportunity to support the cause, either by buying a gift for a specific child in the municipality or by to donate an amount.
“I hope that with our contribution we can light a small candle during the Christmas month for some of the children here in Hvidovre Municipality and at the same time ease some of their parents’ worries – and I hope that many other companies and well-to-do Danes will do the same,” says Peter Hut.
