It is undoubtedly the most expensive merchandising in the history of cinema! Porsche has indeed unveiled the 911 Sally Special, which is inspired by the character of Sally in the Pixar film Cars.
2022 marks the 20th anniversary of Sally’s first drawing, which sparkled four years later in film Cars. A heroine with a strong character, who does not hesitate to tell the bottom of her thoughts to the hero Lightning McQueen! To celebrate the occasion, the Sonderwunsch division of Porsche worked with several Pixar employees, including creative director Jay Ward and Bob Pauley, the designer behind Sally.
A Sally metallic blue
The result of this joint work is the 911 Sally Special, the basis of which is obviously a 911 Carrera GTS coupé, with a manual transmission. The characteristic blue color of the character of Cars was named Sally Blue Metallic, and all exterior elements that are normally black in the car were repainted in this blue. Impossible to miss this special edition of the 911!
Of course, we never see the “inside” of Sally in Cars, which would be really strange. This is why the designers of Porsche had to show imagination for the cabin: almost all the surfaces inside use colors chalk, steel gray or black (and Sally blue, of course).
The 966 Turbo rims have been widened to 21 inches, and elements borrowed from the Pixar film can be found everywhere: logo Cars, Sally’s tattoo on the back… In short, a fan’s dream! And we will have to pay the price to afford this special edition, which is auctioned by Sotheby’s this Saturday. 100% of the profits will be donated to several charities such as the UN refugee agency or Girls Inc for the development and education of girls in the United States.
