A man from Barcelona dies after falling from about 200 meters in the Aragonese Pyrenees

A 59-year-old mountaineer from Barcelona died this Saturday after falling from a height of 200 meters while descending the Pico de la Gran Facha, in the Tena Valley, belonging to the Huesca municipality of Sallent de Gállego.

The notice was received at 4:25 p.m., at Central 062 of the Huesca Civil Guard, emanating from the 112 SOS Aragón Emergency Room. Immediately, three specialists from the GREIM from Panticosa, the Huesca Air Unit and a doctor from 061 were activated.

After accessing the place where the victim was found, they found that he had suffered multiple and serious injuries, for which they gave him analgesia, placed a cervical collar on him and bandaged his wounds. Then they put him on a stretcher, as indicated by the Civil Guard of Huesca.

Due to the bad weather conditions and low visibility, the aircraft could not arrive to rescue the companions and the victim, so the mountain specialists proceeded to evacuate the injured man on foot, along with the doctor and three other mountaineers from the group of the hilly. A few minutes after starting the march, due to the seriousness of the injuries, the man died.

Early this Sunday, the body was removed

For this reason, the body was deposited in a safe place and the descent continued. Finally, the helicopter was able to rescue the mountaineers unharmed, and in another flight, the mountain specialists and the doctor.

GREIM specialists from Panticosa, together with the 061 doctor, with prior judicial authorization, proceeded early this Sunday to remove the body. With the support of the Huesca Air Unit, he has been evacuated to Panticosa, where a funeral vehicle has taken him to the town of Jaca.
