A father gave half of his liver to his daughter to save her life
Sunday was Father’s Day and a dad-hero could not help but receive the warmest wishes and hugs.
His 12-year-old daughter was in danger of losing her life from internal bleeding and her father gave her part of his liver to save her.
For a long time she was on the waiting list for a transplant, and twice when she was called, the transplant was not compatible. After an internal bleeding that almost wanted to cost her her life, the family decided to proceed with a partial transplant from a living donor.
And in fact they did not have to search much. Examinations revealed that her father was the perfectly compatible donor. So, a few weeks later they were both ready for surgery.
The baby has suffered from bile duct from birth and is caused when the bile ducts in the liver do not form properly, preventing the organ from functioning properly.
When a biological parent is a living donor it helps with immunity and reduces the chance of the graft being rejected. But many children waiting for transplants are in foster care or in a situation where the biological parent is not available or willing to donate.
Eight months after the transplant, the little one is fine, while her dad has returned to work and enjoys hunting and fishing.
“I have more energy now and I do not feel tired,” says little Cecilia, who can play with her little sister again, dance and be happy.
