A desired conclusion – Andrei Marga

I find out from the press that, by someone’s decision, the show “Dialogues with Andrei Marga”, initiated in 2002 by the then director of TVR Cluj, Ioan Mușlea, has ended. Honestly, a few months ago, upon reaching 450 recorded broadcasts, we wanted, together with the distinguished journalist Karen Sebesi, to conclude.

TVR Cluj no longer wants Prof. Marga

Once upon a time, TVR Cluj was run by personalities with a cultural appetite. Institutions of this kind could play a role in modernizing knowledge and attitudes. However, you can no longer make serious shows when you are supervised by modest activists, strictly unrelated to the major culture and the debate of ideas, they are the fruit of the local algorithm. We were not motivated by television in any way, but by cultivating a current and profitable debate for those who watched us. We were not interested in slipping into playfulness and opportunism that, unfortunately, invades the media space.

The slippages of appointments in recent Romania should worry the citizens, but especially those who make them.

As I said, we were no longer interested in continuing the show. I took it further, however, to round out the project, which reached over 480 records, with a view to later editing some into volumes. We could move the show to another television, but the consecration matters and I naturally have new priorities.

I want to thank the directors Ioan Mușlea, to our regret, gone from us, and Romeo Couti, who supported a show, unfortunately, singular in Romania, a free-minded debate show on the hot topics of the current day, in the coordinates of the current international culture, on updated information sources. I also thank those who were the interviewers, established by the agreement with TVR Cluj – Ion Mureșan, Cristina Nistor, Ovidiu Pecican and Karen Sebesi. I gratefully thank the public who encouraged us with observations and thematic requests and the very numerous viewers from home and abroad. Without each of them, the show would not have achieved its goal.
